The Fractal Design Torrent is a revolutionary mid-tower PC case that reimagines traditional ATX case design with an innovative updraft airflow architecture. Unlike conventional cases with bottom-mounted power supplies, the Torrent positions the PSU in a separate roof compartment, allowing three 140mm fans mounted in the floor to create powerful upward airflow through the main chamber. This unique design is complemented by two massive 180mm front intake fans, delivering exceptional cooling performance for high-end hardware.
The case supports full-size E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX motherboards with generous internal space for components up to 461mm in GPU length and 188mm CPU cooler height. The Torrent includes five pre-installed RGB fans with multi-color illumination, though users should note that an RGB controller is sold separately. Connectivity features include USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the front I/O panel, plus audio output. Storage flexibility includes four 2.5″ SSD bays and two 3.5″ HDD bays, with support for 360mm or 420mm radiators in both front and bottom positions.
While the Torrent excels in thermal performance—achieving industry-leading CPU temperatures around 32°C in testing—users should be aware of two notable trade-offs: cable management is challenging due to limited rear panel space (approximately 20mm), and the case produces significant noise when all five fans run at maximum speed (50.8 dB). The case features full-length front and bottom dust filters and is constructed from steel with tempered glass side panel options available.
